Fear is a powerful emotion that paralyzes its prey and is associated with a myriad of diseases.  Just as a beautiful Rose or gigantic Redwood has roots, so does fear.  Usually at the root of fear is something that goes much deeper: it could be abandonment, rejection shame, guilt or wrong thinking patterns.  In the book, Think On These Things, by Ray Bentley, Bentley says, “How we think and how we allow our thought life to affect us becomes a tool or device with which we can do one of two things.  We can submit our thoughts to the Lordship of God or we can allow them to control and distract us through fear, anxiety, confusion, and unbelief.”   As a Christian, I believe that God has given us an incredible cure for fear: faith.  It is not faith in faith or faith in self; it is faith in Him.

Anxiety is a twin sister to fear and is also associated with a host of deadly conditions; it is accompanied by such physical symptoms as sweaty palms, rapid heart rate and nervousness.  Worry, a less intense degree of anxiety, can become a habit, a very bad habit.  The worrier usually has a “What if” mentality.  A key to functional and mental fitness is to remove the negativity and the negative emotions.  If you choose to turn your negative attitudes, words and emotions to positive attitudes, words and emotions: you will have positive actions and positive behavior.  It starts in the mind and once again it is a choice.
