“Yeah right, see ya later back on planet earth Mom!!!” That is the response I would get if I told our kids they could never have any of their splurge foods again. However because of my background in health and exercise our kids have always eaten a very healthy diet and they never knew any different. The key is not to forbid the fried foods, sugar, etc. but to limit them. Have them only in moderation. Maybe your diet is comprised of doughnuts for breakfast, a Big Mac and fries for lunch, and fried chicken and gravy for dinner, then what do you do? I would recommend that first of all you do not stop cold turkey (no pun intended) but that you would set out a weekly program targeting one thing at a time to eliminate. For example if the above example truly is your diet:

  • Week one replace your doughnut with a whole grain cereal
  • Week two eliminate the french fries and have a chicken sandwich instead (not fried)
  • Week three replace that fried chicken with grilled chicken and include vegetables

Remember that the choices you make now regarding your nutrition will affect not only your performance now but your health in years to come. The choice is yours.
